SUNY Geneseo is featured in the latest edition of Fiske Guide to Colleges. The College was selected for its outstanding educational value and high-quality academics.

The SUNY Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced that its member institutions will suspend fall sports competition and that winter conference and non-conference schedules will be delayed until January 2021. Bridget Pitre ’20 from Sayville NY, and Kelsey Zorn ’20 from Leicester, NY were each selected to receive fellowship awards of $5,000. The fellowship is a one-year grant to be used to defray non-tuition expenses such as room, board, textbooks, and other costs of attending a SUNY institution. Both graduates are returning to SUNY Geneseo for their graduate degrees.

SUNY Geneseo is now test-optional, having eliminated the requirement of SAT/ACT scores for admission.

Christopher Prusak has been appointed chief of the University Police Department (UPD) at Geneseo. Prusak succeeds Chief Thomas Kilcullen, who is retiring after six years in the position.

Alberta Eshenour ’20 from Waterloo, NY, has received the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals (CBYX) Fellowship.

The President’s Commission on Sustainability recently recognized faculty, staff, and students for their efforts with Campus Sustainability Leadership Awards.

Sean McAneny ’20 and Sean Welch ’19 have won US Student Fulbright awards to serve as English Teaching Assistants for 2020–21. Both Seans earned bachelor’s degrees in English and were four-year members of Geneseo’s NCAA cross country and track and field teams. They will be placed in the Czech Republic and Taiwan respectively to live and teach English for a year.

A full 47 years after leaving SUNY Geneseo one course short of his degree, Andre “Bud” Welter ’73 will graduate in May with a bachelor’s in geological sciences.

Rachel Wallisky ’21, a double major in American studies and history with a minor in political science from Horseheads, NY, has been named a Newman Civic Fellow for 2020-21.

SUNY Geneseo’s Admissions Office has adjusted its recruitment and enrollment activities to accommodate stay-at-home directives, pivoting to expanded online resources and responding to the urgent and changing needs of students and families.

Ethan Nagasing ’20, a chemistry major at SUNY Geneseo, is the chief of operations of Geneseo First Response (GFR). Nagasing and other student EMTs recently volunteered to help relieve downstate ambulance crews during the peak outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Psychology, housed in Bailey Hall, is one of the college’s largest department and most popular majors. “There are so many different directions you can go with this degree,” says associate professor and chair of the department Matthew Pastizzo. “We graduate 200 students a year, because they can go on into business management and marketing, HR, any field that involves human interaction—not to mention the obvious careers of counseling, social work, school counseling, and academia.”

Isabelle Cirulli ’19 has received a 2020–21 US Student Fulbright award for Colombia as an English Teaching Assistant. Cirulli, from Webster, NY, graduated in December with a BA in Spanish and presently teaches Spanish in East Rochester, NY.

Geneseo alumna Kerri Howell ’97 has been named chief communications and marketing officer, a cabinet-level position. Howell will begin her new role on July 9.
