SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles is pleased to announce that Geneseo alumna Kerri Howell ’97 has been named chief communications and marketing officer, a cabinet-level position. Howell will begin her new role on July 9.
Howell currently serves as the director of communications and media at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, a position she has held since 2014. Before her position at SU, Howell was the director of public relations and marketing at St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, also in Syracuse.
Howell has served as an adjunct professor at SU’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications since 2004, teaching undergraduates and graduates in advanced and digital public relations writing, public relations research, and public relations management. She has also previously served in several other communications roles, including at Lockheed Martin and as news producer at WSTM-TV and WPTZ-TV.
“I am delighted that Kerri will be returning to her alma mater and joining us in this senior leadership position at SUNY Geneseo,” said Battles. “Her communications expertise—both in practice and teaching—will benefit our campus community immensely.”
"It is my great privilege to return to SUNY Geneseo to help share the stories and experiences of the talented students, alumni, faculty and staff," said Howell. "The college is well-positioned for the future and I look forward to joining the leadership team and supporting its continued growth and success."
Howell completed a bachelor’s degree in communication with minors in public relations and music at SUNY Geneseo and earned a master’s degree in communications management at SU’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
