GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Department of Physics and Astronomy has received a $420,000 award for the 2017-18 school year from the University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) in support of an ongoing collaborative research project titled “Nuclear and Plasma Diagnostics for the EP-OMEGA and MTW Laser System.”
GENESEO, N.Y.—The SUNY Geneseo Music Department’s Faculty and Guest Artist Series will feature the Geneseo Piano Trio Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. in Doty Recital Hall. The program will begin with a recently composed work, “Moments Past,” by James Walker, professor emeritus of music at the College.
Walker describes “Moments Past” as “a short, somewhat rambling, repetitive, episodic, very difficult, dissonant, developmental bit of composition, using several fragments borrowed from previous compositions. Hence, the title “Moments Past” or even “Moments Passed.”
GENESEO, N.Y. – Leah McGray will debut as the new Geneseo Symphony Orchestra principal conductor when the symphony joins the Geneseo Festival Chorus and the Genesee Valley Children’s Choir in presenting Carl Orff’s 20th century masterpiece “Carmina Burana” Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium.
McGray, who earned her doctorate in musical arts at Northwestern University, joined the Geneseo faculty this semester as director of instrumental activities. She also directs the Geneseo Wind Ensemble.
Lake of Betrayal, a documentary that explores the history of Kinzua Dam and its effect on the Seneca Indians whose lands were taken for the reservoir, will be shown at Geneseo’s Riviera Theater on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. A Q&A session with the filmmakers Scott Sackett, Paul Lamont, and Caleb Abrams, and SUNY Distinguished Professor of History Michael Oberg, will follow the screening. The event is free and open to the public.
At the Rochester Fringe Festival earlier this fall, Arianna Miller ‘18, Isabel Owen ‘19, Jennifer Galvao ’19, and Jasmine Cui ‘20 read a set of poems and a short story. Their performance set, “Write Like a Girl,” was selected for its overarching message of empowerment and strength.
GENESEO, N.Y. – Twelve SUNY Geneseo students presented their research projects Oct. 13-14 at the Council of Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Northeast Undergraduate Research Conference in Pennsylvania.
Mansfield University in Mansfield hosted the conference, where more than 100 students from COPLAC schools featured their research in the humanities, arts, social sciences and natural sciences. The students discussed their work with other presenters and faculty in their discipline from other COPLAC colleges.
