SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Geography has been awarded the 2018 Award for Bachelors Program Excellence from the American Association of Geographers (AAG).

The Geneseo community has a wide variety of music and theatre offerings this weekend.

SUNY Geneseo alumnus Gerald Rhodes ’74, who has made significant contributions in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry, will receive an honorary doctor of science degree during Geneseo’s morning Commencement May 12.

SUNY Geneseo is among the top 10 community partners recognized nationally by the National Voter Registration Day organization for the Center for Community’s efforts in collecting registrations during the 2017 Voter Registration Day. Geneseo was one of two colleges in the top 10.

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) named Milne Library at SUNY Geneseo the best in the country with its 2018 Excellence in Academic Libraries Award in the college category.

Geneseo has been named a Top Producer of U.S. Student Fulbright awards for 2017-18, placing third among all 742 Carnegie Classification master's degree institutions.

Geneseo is ranked No. 10 among medium- size schools on the Peace Corps’ 2018 Top Volunteer-Producing Colleges and Universities list. Currently, 23 Geneseo alumni are volunteering with the program worldwide.

Three researchers in the Department of Physics and Astronomy have received a $20,000 research initiation grant from the NASA/NY Space Grant Consortium.

Leah McGray, director of instrumental activities at SUNY Geneseo, will conduct the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra Feb. 25 in “Mother Tongue,” a concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of American composer Amy Beach.

Geneseo is continuing to implement the highest priority (Phase I) action items that were identified in the Geneseo 2021 Strategic Plan. As communicated by President Battles last fall, several of these action items required not only focused time and effort to achieve, but an investment of funds.

American oceanographer and explorer David Gallo will deliver the keynote address for Geneseo’s two commencement ceremonies on May 12 in the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena. The morning ceremony begins at 10 a.m.; the afternoon ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

SUNY Geneseo’s Department of Music is staging the musical comedy “It Shoulda Been You” Feb. 14 – 18 in the Alice Austin Theatre. The Wednesday through Saturday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m.

Composer and singer Ysaÿe Barnwell ’67, ’68 will join Geneseo’s celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. by conducting a Community Sing on Tuesday, February 27 at 6 p.m. in the College Union Ballroom. The sing is free and open to the public.

SUNY Geneseo students Thasfia Chowdhury '20 and Isabel Owen '20 have won Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships in a national competition.
