This talk is about the network kind of graph and understanding interactions
in networks
Dr. Cesar Aguilar, California State University Bakersfield
Monday (Feb. 22), 4:00 PM, Newton 201
Extra credit for short write-ups on how you connect the talk to other
courses, interests, etc.
Exam 1 is next Thursday (Feb. 25)
Material since start of semester (e.g., 3D coordinates and surfaces, vectors
and their products, lines, planes, vector-valued functions, their derivatives,
limits, integrals, arc length, muPad, etc.)
Probably not curvature
Whole class period
4 - 6 short-answer questions
Open references (book, notes, computer), closed person
Can use calculators, CASes, etc.
But tell me!
If there’s a mistake in an answer and I don’t know whether you
used a calculator on it, I may assume it reflects a lack of knowledge on your
part when in fact you just pressed the wrong calculator key by mistake
Questions?
Integrating Vector-Valued Functions
Example: ball launched at origin, 60 degrees up, horizontal component
parallel to 〈1,1,0〉, speed 120 in/sec
Arc Length
Section 13.3
Basic length equations
Unit tangent vector
Arc length parameterization?
Idea is to describe points on a curve as functions of their distance from
“starting” point
