SUNY Geneseo’s Starbucks has introduced a new beverage to celebrate the college’s 150th anniversary.

Last semester, Campus Auxiliary Services called on several Starbucks baristas to curate an anniversary drink to feature on the menu during the 2021–22 academic year. Four baristas crafted unique iced beverages using the special Starbucks 150th espresso blend. The coffee shop featured one drink each week during April 2021, and the Geneseo community voted for its favorite.

Washington Monthly magazine has named SUNY Geneseo number one on its annual list based on what schools do for the country. The magazine ranked Geneseo first among 616 master’s universities in the nation on its “2021 Master’s University Rankings” for its contributions to the public good across three broad categories: social mobility, research, and promoting public service.

Two convocations welcomed new and returning students and faculty to campus for the beginning of fall classes.

New Student Convocation on August 26 marked the official start of the academic year at Geneseo. Faculty and staff attended the event in academic regalia to welcome new students into the Geneseo community. The event included a keynote address by Suann Yang, associate professor of biology, who encouraged students to make Geneseo their home.

SUNY Geneseo has rearticulated its mission and value statements as part of its strategic planning process. Earlier this year, the college’s Strategic Planning Group (SPG), with the participation of more than 1,100 Geneseo constituents, collaboratively revisited the statements, which reaffirm Geneseo’s identity as a public liberal arts institution and intention to produce graduates who will shape a better world.

Students interested in dental or osteopathic medicine now have an opportunity for early admission into medical school thanks to an articulation agreement signed August 18. The three-way agreement creates a seamless, affordable pathway for students who attend Corning Community College (SUNY CCC) and then transfer to SUNY Geneseo, making them eligible for early acceptance into Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM).

SUNY Geneseo is featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2022. Inclusion in the guide as a “best and most interesting” college is based on the quality of academic offerings and includes students’ social and quality-of-life ratings.

Fiske's 2022 edition notes that Geneseo is a "preferred option" due to our serious academic environment and affordable price. The informational guide also takes notice of Geneseo’s supportive faculty, quality teaching, and small class size. “Geneseo is challenging but never unreasonable,” says a sophomore quoted in the guide.

The President's Commission on Sustainability recently honored members of the campus community for their efforts to advance sustainability at Geneseo.

"Amidst all the emotional challenges, obstacles, and barriers that were thrown at the Geneseo community this past year, we have made some amazing gains in sustainability," says Meg Reitz, commission co-chair and associate director of residence life for educational initiatives. "It's valuable to stop, recognize those gains, and celebrate the tireless work of the people in all parts of our campus."
