Melanie Blood has served in the Provost's Office as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs since August 2019, first in an interim role and since January 2022 as the successful candidate of a national search. She has been involved in a number of projects that have enhanced our curriculum and advanced assessment across the college. As Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Melanie recently led the college through a successful review for reaccreditation.

Melanie became a member of the Geneseo faculty in 1995, advancing to the rank of associate professor in 1998, and to professor in 2007. She received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011. In her faculty role, she has taught courses in dramatic literature and film, and musical theatre, as well as courses in the Women and Gender Studies program, also serving as its director for more than a decade. Melanie previously served the college as coordinator of fellowships and scholarships for five years, and as assistant/associate director/dean of the School of Arts for twelve years. Her research centers on American theatre and drama, and she regularly directs musicals and plays.

  • MUSC 181: Musical Theatre Expansions

    Spontaneity, awareness, concentration, imagination, and trust. In Musical Theatre Expansions, students explore their natural performance instincts and impulses, learn to take risks, and build a sense of trust and support with their fellow students and themselves. This course is intended to be a precursor to the Musical Theatre Performance sequence.
