Rachel Hall has been teaching at SUNY Geneseo since 1993. She received her M.F.A. from Indiana University, where she was awarded the Hemingway Fellowship. Every semester at Geneseo, Hall teaches Literary Editing & Publishing 426/428 that produces the bi-annual issues of Gandy Dancer, a SUNY literary magazine. She also functions as the group’s faculty advisor. She has received two Chancellor's Awards, one for excellence in teaching and the other for excellence in scholarship and creative activities.
Hall was awarded the BkMk Press 2015 G.S. Sharat Chandra prize selected by Marge Piercy for her collection of linked stories titled Heirlooms, later published in September 2016. Her work focuses primarily on fiction writing and her stories and essays have been published in several journals and anthologies: Bellingham Review, Crab Orchard Review, Gettysburg Review, Lilith, New Letters, Water~Stone, among other publications. An introduction to the basics of publishing through the opportunity to edit and produce, Geneseo's online literary journal, Gandy Dancer. Coursework will include the creation of advertising and marketing, solicitation of manuscripts, collaboration within editorial committees, copyediting and proofreading as well as layout and design.

Students enrolled in this course will assume leadership roles in the hands-on work of putting out this journal.
