Buffalo Bandits Native American Scholarship Fund

The Buffalo Bandits professional lacrosse team established this scholarship fund in 2000 to financially assist a Native American student in their pursuit of higher education. Awards of up to $1000 are made.

Eligibility
Applicants must be of Native American descent and living in Western New York or Southern Ontario; must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university; and provide transcripts, personal essay, letters of recommendation, etc.


Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI)

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute is a non-profit and non-partisan educational organization established in 1978 by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus to develop the next generation of Latino leaders.

The Public Policy Fellowship Program offers up to 20 recent college graduates or currently enrolled graduate students from across the country, including Puerto Rico, the opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the federal level in the public policy area of their choice. Fellows received roundtrip transportation to Washing, DC, health insurance coverage, and a monthly stipend of $2,200. Fellows with a graduate degree will receive a monthly stipend of $2600. Postmark deadline is March 1.

The Scholarship Awards are given to Latino students who have a demonstrated history of leadership in their community. There is no GPA requirement and full-time undergraduate and graduate students of all majors are eligible to apply. Students attending a four-year university or graduate/professional program will receive $2,500 and a Dell Notebook computer and Microsoft package. Postmark deadline is April 15.

Graduate Diversity Fellowship Program

The Graduate Diversity Fellowship Program (GDFP) is designed to direct and aid to graduate/professional students who have demonstrated academic achievement and overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Candidates will contribute to the diversity of the student body by demonstrating their commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in their academic programs and activities. Scholarship funds will be used to cover non-tuition educational expenses such as room, board, books or college fees.

Eligibility & Application Process

To be eligible, applicants must be (1) U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status, and (2) must demonstrate how they will contribute to the diversity of the student body in the program for which they are applying, including by having overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Even though financial need is not a requirement for program eligibility, applicants may utilize economic disadvantage as a basis for eligibility.

Preference will be given to candidates who are: From a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), were first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans. The Graduate Diversity Fellowship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. All application submissions will be assessed and evaluated in accordance with the required eligibility criteria.

Students must remain in good academic standing for continued eligibility for the award. Students enrolled full-time (12 or more credit hours) are eligible for the full $10,000 award. Students enrolled in part-time study are eligible to receive partial funding.

Applicants to a SUNY Geneseo graduate program must submit a separate fellowship application to the Office of Multicultural Programs. Fellowship and Graduate Studies application deadlines are the same. (Dates vary by program. Refer to the Instructions for Completion of Application for Graduate Admission for specific dates.)

The Diversity Fellowship Program grants up to $10,000 toward tuition and living expenses for students enrolled in the Master of Science program in Accounting, Master of Arts in History, or the Master of Science program in Reading and Literacy B-12. 

Priority

Priority for participation in the fellowship program is given in the following order:

Step I: New graduate students who are being recruited but who have not yet accepted admission to a State University graduate program.

Step II: Graduate Opportunity Waiver Program students who can be awarded a stipend to supplement their waiver to tuition.

Step III: Graduate Assistants and Teaching Assistants who can receive a supplement to their current stipends to enhance their retention in graduate studies.


Geneseo Kiwanis Club Scholarship in Memory of Dr. Ramon Rocha

Dr. Ramon Rocha, first director the Office of Multicultural Affairs, had a favorite saying - "Nada Es Imposible - Nothing Is Impossible". The Geneseo Foundation awards this scholarship in an amount up to  $500 in honor of Dr. Rocha's can do spirit to two students of color who have persevered in the pursuit of their education despite personal, social or financial obstacles. The scholarship can only be used at SUNY Geneseo.

Hispanic College Fund, Inc.

The National Hispanic Explorers Scholarship Program is a program designed to help create the next generation of Hispanic Explorers. Funded by a grant from NASA, the National Hispanic Explorers Scholarship Program will provide Hispanic students merit and need-based scholarships that will help them achieve their goal of an undergraduate degree in the fields of science and engineering.

Eligibility
African American, Hispanic, and Native American descent. 3.0 Minimum GPA is required for Upstate New York. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors with at least two summers remaining until graduation are eligible to apply.

Must be a freshmen or sophomore in an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 2.8.


NASCAR

NASCAR Diversity Internship Program. Students will be able to apply to an internship most suitable to their interest from engineering to marketing and more. Interns are full-time employees during the terms of their involvement with participating companies and will receive competitive salary/wages, as well as, a housing stipend if not local. Locations vary from opportunity to opportunity and each participating company is asked to provide assistance to the student in finding summer housing. By the end of the summer experience, not only will an intern gain valuable work skills, but they also will have made important connections for their future careers.

National Institutes of Health - Undergraduate Scholarship Program

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers an innovative program to support the career development of the next generation of biomedical health researchers - an undergraduate scholarship program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Undergraduate Scholarship Program for Individuals from Disadvantaged Backgrounds (UGSP), targets students who are committed to pursuing careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research. The NIH Undergraduate Scholarship Program offers: Up to $20,000 a year in scholarship support. Paid research training at the NIH during the summer and after graduation· Intensive monitoring, research experience, career guidance and skill development.

Eligibility
US Citizen, national, or qualified non-citizen, enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student for the academic year at an accredited undergraduate institution, from a disadvantaged background (meaning "exceptional financial need") and hold a 3.5 GPA or higher.


New York State Housing Finance Agency

Minority Internship Program. Recognizing that internships are often the foundation of informed career choices, the Minority Internship Program was established in 1990. These internships are an established point of entry into the business of public finance. Each year, four interns are selected for a year-long Program, which includes two six month terms. The first term is spent working at the New York State Housing Finance Agency on single and multifamily debt issuance, real estate finance, and mortgage insurance issues. For the second six-month term, inters will work at one of the co-sponsoring (Bear, Stearns & Co., Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Global Markets Inc., and UBS Financial Services, Inc.) private sector firms where they function as analysts in these and other related areas.

Eligibility
Minority students who have, or expect to receive a baccalaureate degree prior to the start of the internship. The Program is available only to New York State residents. Quantitative ability, as demonstrated in courses such as economics, business administration, or mathematics, is important, but it is not necessary to have majored in one of these areas. Successful candidates should have an interest in finance, be familiar with governmental institutions, and have the willingness to work long hours. Individuals with advanced degrees or who are in advanced degree programs are not eligible. The salary for the one-year internship is $40,000 plus medical benefits.


Organization of Chinese American Scholarships

OCA Scholarship Program applications are now available online. Scholarships and financial aid are critical in helping students attain a college education. Depending on funding, OCA typically provides up to 60-$2000 scholarships for each academic year. The Organization of Chinese Americans, a national civil rights organization with over 80 chapters and affiliates across the country, was founded in 1973 to ensure the civil rights of the Asian Pacific American community. OCA has awarded over 1600 scholarships to financially disadvantaged students through its various scholarship programs.

SUNY Native American Western Consortium


The Native American SUNY: Western Consortium is funded by the State University of New York (SUNY) to provide outreach in western and central New York from our office located on the Fredonia campus. We provide support to students from the Six Nations (Seneca, Cayuga, Tuscarora, Onondaga, Oneida, Mohawk) attending a college or university. The consortium publicizes the following resources annually: Directory Internships and Fellowships for Native Americans and the Financial Aid Directory for Members of the Six Nations.
