Off-campus, New York State’s “911 Good Samaritan” law encourages a witness or victim of a drug or alcohol-related overdose to seek medical attention without fear of prosecution by state or local courts. The law states, “A person who, in good faith, seeks health care for someone who is experiencing a drug or alcohol overdose or other life-threatening medical emergency shall not be charged or prosecuted for a controlled substance offense.” It should be noted, however, that this law does not obviate the Student Code of Conduct, and sanctions may be imposed by the office of Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Off-Campus Jurisdiction
The office of Student Conduct & Community Standards may exercise jurisdiction over student conduct, even when the student is off-campus. View more information about laws and policies governing off-campus student behavior on the student conduct homepage.
Recognized Student Organization Conduct
Each organization receiving the privilege of recognition is expected to represent the College, both on and off campus, in a positive manner, which includes adherence to the Student Code of Conduct. Members are expected to be aware of all policies in the Student Code of Conduct. In addition, members of recognized fraternal organizations may view the Inter-Greek Council Resolution on Alcohol.
