Living-Learning Communities

Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) are a specific type of housing option for students who are interested in:

  • exploring academic interests outside the classroom through access to resources 
  • making connections with students with shared interests, and/or
  • finding community among shared identities.

Academic Related LLCs

  • Dante House (on pause for 2024-2025)
    • First-year students who value learning in and out of the classroom through civic engagement and service to the community
    • First-year Edgar Fellows are required to live here (exception granted by program faculty)
    • Required Course: XLRN 102 - Ethical Service Learning
  • Eco House (LLC)
    • Students in all years and all majors interested in exploring and increasing sustainability awareness and activism on campus
    • First-Year Sustainability Studies Majors are required to live here (exception granted by program faculty)
    • Required Course: XLRN 102 - Intro to Eco House
  • Business & Society LLC (LLC)
    • Established to develop skills for business majors and non-majors, to connect first-year students to the diversity of the fields in Business, and learn about the impact on society.
    • Required Course: MGMT 100 - Society and Business (or ENTR 100 - Intro to Entrepreneurship)
    • First-year students interested in any aspect of Business (accounting, human resources, data analytics, economists, finance, entrepreneurship, and more)
  • First-Knight Experience (LLC) (on pause for 2024-2025)
    • First-year students who have not yet declared a major or are exploring majors
    • Required Course: EXPL 101 - Geneseo First Year Seminar
  • STEM LLC (Affinity)
    • For all majors and all years interested in all STEM fields and in support collaboration, wellbeing, and equity in STEM
  • Tesla House  (on pause for 2024-2025)
    • First-year students interested in Physics, Geological Sciences, and Education
    • Required Course: XLRN 102 - Integrative Project Seminar (spring semester)
  • Writers House (LLC) 
    • For students interested in all types of creative and academic writing including literary writing, science writing, song writing, poetry, music, film, plays, short stories, and the teaching of writing.
    • For all majors and years

Shared Interest LLCs

  • Arts & Wellness LLC (Affinity)
    • Students interested in exploring the 8 dimensions of personal wellbeing through visual, performing, and musical arts
    • Open to students of all years and all majors
  • Food Culture House (LLC)
    • Students interested in food, food cultures, and food security in Livingston County and around the world
    • Open to students of all years and all majors
  • Digital Arts and Gaming LLC (Affinity)
    • For students interested in building community, wellbeing, and entrepreneurial skills around video gaming, graphic design, photography, or videography
    • Open to students of all years and all majors
  • Global House (LLC)
    • For students interested in exploring the role of diverse cultures in and out of the United States
    • Open to students of all years and all majors
  • Sports Leadership (Affinity)
    • A community for athletes and students interested in athletics (including spectators, intramural, eSports, sports medicine, fitness, etc.). 

Identity Affirming Affinity Based LLCs

  • International Student Housing (Affinity)
    • For international students (degree-seeking and exchange) of all years interested in living with other international students who are new to the United States and western NY
    • Also open to domestic students passionate about welcoming international students
  • Kuumba House (Affinity)
    • For incoming students, this is a community of students of diverse backgrounds who come together to celebrate their identities while nurturing their leadership skills, providing a space for students to minimize code switching and the emotional labor for each other
  • Lavender House (Affinity)
    • A community of LGBTQIAA students and their allies.
    • Open to all years and all majors
  • Sensory Retreat LLC (Affinity)
    • For students who would benefit from a quiet, less stimulating and smaller residence hall community
    • Open to all years and all majors
  • Substance-Free House (Affinity)
    • Students living in this community agree to refrain from alcohol and drug use in the living space.
    • Open to all years and all majors
  • Transfer Student Experience (Affinity)
    • For new and returning students who transferred to Geneseo interested in living with other transfer students
  • Umoja House (Affinity)
    • For returning students, this is an engaged intellectual community where students of diverse backgrounds can come together to celebrate their identities while nurturing their leadership skills. 
    • Open to all years and all majors
  • First Generation Student Experience (Affinity)

    • For incoming students who are interested in living with others who are first generation college students (meaning they are the first in their family to attend college).
