Internal Communications at SUNY Geneseo

Below is a quick reference guide to internal communications. It is not comprehensive but provides the highlights.

How to Communicate with Faculty and Staff

Today at Geneseo — for messages that are intended for faculty and staff. Sent daily unless there are no submissions. Events are not accepted. View the submission guidelines and then fill out the form.

Department News — the perfect venue for personnel news or kudos. Posting to Department News directs the item to your target audience and provides an easy link for sharing out via Today at Geneseo, other newsletters, or social media. Here's How to Post Department News items. If your department has yet to set up a news page, you can add one to your department website by submitting a request with CIT.

Upcoming Events for Faculty and Staff — faculty and staff events newsletter that's automatically generated from the online events calendar (shows all events marked for faculty and staff). Sent every weekday morning during the semester. In-person events with a room reservation are added to the calendar automatically, but you must fill out the event information form at least one week before the event to make sure your listing in the calendar and newsletter includes a description, photo, and audience info. If you're holding an event in a location that doesn't need to be reserved or if your event is online-only, please submit the event directly to the calendar. Answers to questions about the events calendar can be found on the calendar help page.

Listservs — full list of available lists, moderators and definitions of the types of information that can be sent can be found on the Policy website

How to Communicate with Students

Geneseo Weekly — weekly informational email newsletter sent to studentnews-L each week during the academic year. Geneseo Weekly includes brief updates from across campus, including information from student clubs and organizations. Events are not accepted. View the submission guidelines and form.

Upcoming Events for Students — student events newsletter that's automatically generated from the online events calendar (shows all events marked for students). Sent to all students every weekday morning during the semester.

General Event Publicity — for a complete list of ways to promote your event, see the Student Organization Event Publicity website, which includes how to promote your event in residence halls, dining halls, and academic buildings.

Social Media — promote your event and information via social media and be sure to @ mention @SUNYGeneseo in your post so the College can easily amplify/share your post. Instagram is the most widely used social media channel among students.

Studentnews-L — information that is useful for students to know, but not required. It's used mainly by administration for important news and information for students, which merits its own specific email.

Allstudents-L — only used for information that is REQUIRED for students to know to continue in good standing.
