Distinguished Teaching Professor Intekhab Alam
School of Business faculty member Intekhab Alam has been awarded the rank of Distinguished Teaching Professor by the SUNY Board of Trustees. Distinguished ranks are the highest honors awarded by SUNY.
In his nomination, Geneseo leadership noted Alam’s dedication to providing special opportunities for students that extend beyond the classroom, and that he creates an environment in which all students feel comfortable participating. Alam has also provided expertise as an advisor to the SUNY Geneseo Marketing Club. He has developed several courses in the School of Business, and helped create a new minor in marketing. He has also organized marketing trips to New York City for students and several marketing conferences at Geneseo.
Alam earned his bachelor's degree in commerce from the University of Calcutta, India, and an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University, India, before earning a master of business in marketing by research from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He earned a doctorate in marketing from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. Before joining Geneseo faculty in 2001, Alam served as a lecturer at several universities in Australia. He has won several teaching awards in the past, including the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching as well as the National Meritorious Teaching Award. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and papers in his field.

I am so honored to have my work recognized in this way by SUNY Geneseo and become part of an eminent faculty group in the SUNY system," says Alam. "This accomplishment is not something that I did alone. I attribute my success to SUNY Geneseo students. The high expectation of my students motivated me to work harder and bring the classroom instructions to a higher level."
