Room Changes
If you want to change your room assignment, Residence Life will work with you to try and accommodate your request. However, such changes may take time, and are not always possible depending on room availability and other considerations.
Before You Move In
If you're looking for an assignment change prior to moving into your room, you may do so during the open room change period. This period will be communicated by email and in the Symplicity housing portal under "announcements." This includes suite room swaps. Requests are not able to be accommodated outside of that advertised period as we prepare keys, room condition forms, card access, and other administrative process related to move in.
Room changes can be requested during this period through the JIRA Service Desk portal.
After You Move In
If you would like to change your housing assignment, you must meet with the area coordinator/resident director for your residence hall to talk about why you want to switch rooms. They will work with you to resolve your concerns, such as roommate mediation, before a decision is made on your ability to move. If your request is approved, your AC/RD will provide additional instructions, including a timeline for an offer, check in/out procedure, and the timeline for when the move needs to be completed.
Important Room Change Information
Please note that room changes are only able to be processed after all housing vacancies are verified at the start of each semester and if space permits.
Your AC/RD can provide you with more information about timeline and feasibility of move. There may be additional steps if you are looking to move into or out of a Living Learning Community.
Mutual room switches (room switches between two students, including in suites) is permitted at the discretion and timeline of Residence Life and must follow proper procedures.
If you switch rooms without following these procedures you will be asked to move back into your assigned space and/or charged with improper room change violation.
RAs are not able to approve room changes. Please ensure you are speaking to your AC/RD professional staff member or the Assistant Director of Housing Operations for approval to move (depending on your process).
Please note that moving bins are not typically available during the academic year however we do have them available during August move in, May move out, and winter closing and opening.
What if I don't get along with my roommate?
Vacancy in Your Room
Throughout the course of your time living on campus, you may have a roommate depart due to various reasons (room change, leave of absence, etc.). Prior to your move-in you will be able to see this information updated on the Symplicity portal. After move-in, other than emergency room changes, we provide 24 hour notice via email to residents that a new roommate (or suite/apartment-mate as a courtesy) has been assigned and will be checking in the following business day.
If a space becomes available in your room, we expect at all times for that space to be kept clean and clear of your personal items with the knowledge that a student could be placed there at any time.
If you would like to pull a friend into your room or suite/apartment, please contact your AC/RD.
Residence Life reserves all rights regarding assignment and reassignment of all spaces for any reason.
