Adopt-a-Business Program
Please note that the intake portion of the Adopt-a-Business program is open for the Fall 2024 semester. If you are a student or a business interested in participating, you are encouraged to register for the 2024 Fall semester until September 20th, 2024.
Adopt-a-Business (AaB) is a student internship program for business, communication, and marketing majors.
It aims to provide free content marketing and social media support to local and regional small businesses. This includes focusing on business website content (not development) and social media posts such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
NOTE: An SBDC Advisor is available to support any work needed outside the scope of this program.
The engagement consists of:
- Client visits and introductions (virtual or in-person)
- Client audit for current content marketing and social media capabilities
- Client recommendations report highlighting key projects
- Client deliverables related to the recommended projects
- Client summary report reviewing the program after the engagement
The program allows students to gain practical experience in business consulting, entrepreneurship, marketing, and communications by interacting with real-world businesses.
In turn, local and regional businesses benefit from having access to cutting-edge talent to enhance their business by leveraging content marketing and their growing online presence through social media.
The program was established in 2015 and is hosted by the SUNY Geneseo Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and the School of Business (SOB).
