The theme of the 2025 Summit is Positioning the Public Liberal Arts for the Future: Storytelling, Advocacy, and Workforce Innovation. The Summit will gather representatives from member campuses to explore the convening theme through unpacking each of the three sub-themes: Positioning through Storytelling, Positioning through Advocacy, and Positioning through Workforce Innovation.

These in-depth discussions will be led by facilitators from SUNY Geneseo and the broader COPLAC community, with the aim of generating actionable outcomes, such as new approaches to enhancing educational experiences, collaborative research projects, or contributions to broader academic conversations through publications and presentations.

Optional Excursions for Participants and Their Guests

Behind the Ropes Tour at the Historic Genesee Country Museum and Village

Travel back in time on a walking tour of the village’s homes. On this excursion, guests will be guided through the village by an expert dressed in period costume. In addition to seeing the main parts of the homes that the general public sees, our guests will be able to go “behind the ropes"! Museum experts provide special access to upstairs, downstairs, and behind barriers, providing guests with an experience above and beyond the day-to-day offerings within this historic village. The tour will emphasize room usage and will illuminate the daily experiences of our buildings' former inhabitants. This experience is approximately one hour, and involves walking and climbing narrow stairs.

On June 8th, 2025, guests will be shuttled from SUNY Geneseo at 9:00 am. The tour will begin at 10 am. At the conclusion of the tour, the group will have lunch before departing back to SUNY Geneseo at 12:00 pm. The folks at the GCVM know that one simply cannot experience the entire village in a couple of hours. As an added gift, guests will also receive a complimentary pass to return to GCVM on June 10th, 2025 to continue exploring the village and shops on their own. In addition, guests will receive 10% off purchases on both Sunday and Tuesday. Minimum of 12 people must sign up for the activity to run.

Cost for this excursion is $85 per person.

Experience the Famed Middle Falls at Letchworth State Park and Lunch at the Glen Iris Inn

Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East," is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. Formerly the home of William Pryor Letchworth (1823-1910), the Glen Iris Inn has welcomed guests as a country inn since 1914. The inn overlooks the magnificent Middle Falls on the Genesee River and is surrounded by the beauty of Letchworth State Park. "Glen Iris," as Mr. Letchworth named his estate, means "canyon of the rainbow." "Glen" is an old word for canyon or gorge, and "Iris" is the Ancient Greek goddess of rainbows. When the sun is shining on the Middle Falls waterfall mist, a rainbow arches over the canyon. Within the Glen Iris is Caroline's Dining Room, a sit-down restaurant, as well as a gift shop; both are open to all park visitors.

On June 8th, 2025, guests will be shuttled from SUNY Geneseo at 9:00 am, and will arrive at the Glen Iris Inn by 9:45 am. They will have from 10 am to 11 am to explore the grounds, walk the stairs to the lower viewing area of the falls and visit the gift shop at the inn. The group will have lunch at the inn at 11:00 am and will be shuttled back to SUNY Geneseo at noon. Minimum of 12 people must sign up for the activity to run.

Cost for this excursion is $75 per person.

Livingston County Libations Loop Tasting Tour

Born out of the Brew in Livingston competition, launched with five breweries in Livingston County. From zero to many, Livingston County has seen an upsurge in craft brewing and distilling. The Libation Loop is now over 11 venues strong and growing. This county-wide trail allows locals and visitors to taste all types of alcohol while exploring multiple towns.

On June 8th, 2025, guests will be shuttled from SUNY Geneseo at 9:00 am, and will visit 4-5 wineries/breweries/distilleries on the Livingston Libation Loop. At each stop guests will enjoy a tasting and a nosh to eat. Each stop will be approximately one hour, and the tour will be curated to an increasing weight in libations. The group will be shuttled back to SUNY Geneseo at 3:00 pm. Minimum of 20 people must sign up for the activity to run.

Cost for this excursion is $125 per person.
