Should Pre-Law Students Minor in Legal Studies?

The Legal Studies minor at Geneseo combines courses from several fields, including political science, sociology, philosophy, and business. Pre-law candidates may find these courses interesting as electives. 

However, the Geneseo Pre-Law program advises against adding Legal Studies as a minor, since law schools have particular approaches to teaching law and training lawyers that may not parallel this interdisciplinary minor. Law school admissions officers prefer to see liberal arts minors in a variety of subjects that indicate a well-rounded education before law school.
