MATH 390 Writing Assignment #2  (Due Friday, March 8)

In the proof of Proposition 2 of Book I of Euclid’s Elements the diagram used for the proof presents one possible relation between the given point A and the given segment BC.  If A and BC are in a different arrangement the proof may have to be slightly altered and the diagram will appear different.  Write a proof of this proposition (page 244) with point A further away from B and C than the length of BC. In the given proof A is closer to B than C is to B. Draw a diagram with the distance from A to B and to C greater than the length of BC.  Then rewrite the proof for this case.  Almost all the proof will be unchanged from what is in the book.  Your proof should be almost a copy of what is in the book.
