TEXT:   A Problem Solving Approach to Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers 6th Ed. By  Billstein, Libeskind, and Lott - Addison-Wesley 1997

 

SUPPLEMENTS: A TI Explorer Calculator and A Set of Manipulatives.

EVALUATION PROCEDURES: 

    The final grade for this course will be based upon two in-class exams, a comprehensive final exam, homework, and group in-class assignments. The in-class exams are scheduled for September 29 and November 3, though these dates may change by a class or two. The final exam is scheduled for Monday, December 18 at 12 PM.  The weight given to each part of the evaluation is as follows:

Tests (in-class)......................................................…...…..45%

Final exam...................................................................….30%

Homework and Group Assignments............................….25%

 

The grades will be assigned on the following schedule.

A  -  93-100%      A-  -  90-92%    B+  -  87-89%    B  -  83-86%       B-  -  80-82%

C+  -  77-79%      C  -  73-76%     C-  -   70-72%    D  -  60-69%       E   -   0-59%.

 

 

MAKE-UP POLICY:

     A make-up exam will be given only if I am supplied with a verifiable medical excuse or arrangements have been made prior to the scheduled exam.

COURSE CONTENTS:

     This course covers most of chapters 8-13 of the text.  A complete outline of the contents of the course will be given in class.
