During
my years abroad I have collect books and printed
ephemera,
attracted by the tactile
and visual qualities in these found volumes,
used tickets and timetables, receipts, wrappers, etc.
Ultimately these materials
offered canvas and color
for use in artists' books
and collage work.
Limited linguistic
comprehension only enhances the
visual fascination with
print and paper -
letters, numbers,
words, paragraphsand pages
becoming pure graphic
design elements.
This small book entitled The
Goodbye, was written by the
Russian Jewish writer Boris
Isaakovich Balter,
published
in Moscow in 1963, then translated into Hungarian
and printed in Budapest the
following year.
I found the volume at a
used book stand in the Debrecen train station.
A small trasure from another
time.
