This force plate system will save horses from mistreatment and undiagnosed injuries.
As a horse trains, like all athletes, injury might occur. Currently, a horse is cared for by a veterinarian or trainer, and identification of injury is either felt by the rider or seen. In this fashion, lameness could go undiagnosed and a horse could go through a show, race, or any other event with an injury. Birth defects could also be diagnosed with this system if they result in an abnormal gait.
The plate is designed to be buried in a natural walking path and stepped on by any leg of the horse. The data collected then tells of side favoritism, duration of step, center of mass, and many other diagnostics.
This system is intended for use at a home stable or at any equine event (such as a pre-race screen of health). Trainers can use this as a check-up, ensuring work-outs are well suited for the horse, and vets can use it as a way of seeing into an inherent problem.
Currently this system is still under development.
