→ Textbook: Sound Physics, by McLean.
This will be made available online for free.
This book will eventually be published through SUNY Open Textbooks, but it
is not yet available.
Instead, you will have free online access to the text through the course
website. If you wish to have a printed copy, you will be able to
print your own.
→ Calculator: A calculator that handles logarithms (“LOG” key). This need not be very expensive. You don’t need one of the expensive graphing calculators for this course. But this can't be on a phone, computer, etc, as you will need it for exams.
→ A rigid ruler, 6" or 12", will be very useful in a number of assignments, although not strictly required for any.
→ The Science of Sound, 3rd edition, by
Rossing, Moore, and Wheeler.
This was the textbook in past years. It is a good book, but not a
perfect match for the course, which is why the new textbook was
written. If you are interested in going more in-depth on subjects in
this course, this book is a good choice.
