On a national scale, SUNY Geneseo has an unusually large Physics Department, especially compared to other PUIs (Primarily Undergraduate Institutions). Here are some actual numbers, based on the AIP Report "Roster of Physics Depts with Enrollment and Degree Data, 2001" (AIP Pub. No. R-394.8).
According to that report Geneseo graduated 12 physics majors in 2001, which historically we would consider a small class.
Note that the horizontal axis is not linear. Because relatively few schools graduate large numbers of Physics Bachelors, the higher end of the scale has been binned in groups of 3 or 5 (as labeled). Histogram columns have been normalized for bin size.
Among schools who do not grant masters or doctoral degrees, Geneseo ranked 20th out of 483 schools, along with 5 other schools of the same size. | Among all colleges and universities, Geneseo ranked 71st out of 693 schools, along with 12 other schools of the same size. |
