Analytical Physics III Final Exam Topics
New Material
Roughly 2/3 of the Final Exam will cover topics from lecture since the last Exam. Broadly speaking, this consists of
- Maxwell velocity distribution and distributions in general
- Photons: energy quanta, the Planck distribution, Wien's law, and the photoelectric effect
- Special Relativity, kinematics (but not momentum and energy)
Review Material
The following topics from earlier in the course may appear on the Final Exam. It is not guaranteed that all of them will appear on the Final, but most will.
- Bernouli equation
- Intensity for two-slit light patterns that combine interference and diffraction effects
- Radiation pressure
- Heat transfer via thermal radiation
- Coming to thermal equilibrium, possibly including phase transition
- Work and heat for thermodynamic processes with an ideal gas
- E&M wave equations, including how equations relate to pictures, and how the parameters in the equations relate (amplitudes, intensity, wavelength, frequency, and such)
