→ Textbook: Fundamentals of Physics, 10th edition, by Halliday, Resnick, and Walker. ISBN 978-1118730157 (that's the ISBN for Extended version with WebAssign access).
We recommend the "Extended" version for physics majors, for its utility in later courses. Other majors might choose the "Regular" version instead.
Note that there are several binding options, including loose leaf and multiple volumes. If you already have this book from PHYS 123 (Analytical Physics I), then you do not need anything. Even the WebAssign access should carry over with no additional purchase.
You need the version which comes with an access code to WebAssign, which will be used for online homework throughout the course. If you purchase a text without WebAssign (for example, as a used book), then you will need to purchase WebAssign access separately and at additional cost (roughly $40). You can make that purchase online when you sign in to WebAssign for the first time.
If you are very short on cash, you can purchase only the online access. This includes an online version of the text, but only for a year duration or so.
We will follow this book quite closely, covering chapters 16, 17, 21–26, 28–30, and 35.
→ Calculator: A scientific calculator that handles logarithms. Graphing calculators are NOT required for this course (although they seem to be popular).
→ Laptop: This course will take advantage of the fact that Geneseo has a laptop requirement. Among other things, you must provide a laptop on which to take the exams.
