“Dodge Ball” Discussion

Math 239 03
Spring 2021

(The following is/are the initial prompt(s) for an online discussion; students may have posted responses, and prompts for further discussion may have been added, but these things are not shown.)

Our textbook introduces a “dodge ball” game that allegedly has a winning strategy for one of the players (see Beginning Activity 1 in section 9.3); furthermore that strategy supposedly has something to do with uncountability.

Discuss what the winning strategy for the book’s “dodge ball” game is. This might involve describing the rules of the game as well as suggesting a strategy. Thoughts and partial answers that move the discussion towards an answer without getting all the way there are valuable contributions, of course.
