      • cell( rows, columns ) makes empty cell array
    • Retrieve data from array
      • array{ index } retrieves value in cell
      • array( index ) displays cell (among other things)
    • Operations on cell arrays

  • Difference between cells and contents
    • Standard implementation of arrays relies on all elements being same size
    • This doesn’t work for arrays of things that are intrinsically different sizes, e.g., strings
    • Solution is to make arrays of “references,” fixed-size references to location of actual data elsewhere in memory
