  • Debugger = tool for inspecting a program (variables, what lines execute in what order, etc.) while it runs
  • Key features of most debuggers, including Matlab’s
    • Breakpoints = mark that pauses program when execution reaches it
    • Ability to look at values of variables and expressions
    • Single stepping = executing one line at a time
      • Stepping into functions vs treating them as part of the statement that calls them
      • Stepping out of a function
    • Function call stack = history of the series of function calls that got program to its current place
