- Below are 8 sub-disciplines in mathematics:
- Geometry
- Algebra
- Analysis
- Discrete Math
- Logic and Set Theory
- Probability and Statistics
- Computational Mathematics
- Applied Mathematics
Do the following:
- Use 2-3 sentences to describe the main topics studied in each sub-discipline.
- Place each course in the course rotation list (except 101, 104, 140, 141, 348, 380, 390 and the Courses Not Regularly Offered) into one of the sub-disciplines.
- Create a 4-year course plan for your math major keeping in mind the following:
- State which of the 4 math majors is your current math major.
- Include in your plan any math courses that you have already taken.
- For your entire plan, add up the credits for all math courses and confirm that the total number of credits equals the required number of credits for your math major.
- Organize your plan by year and semester. Thus, you should have about 8 semesters, depending on whether you have plans to graduate in less or more than 4 years.
- For electives, do your best to decide knowing that you will likely change your mind later.
- Keep in mind that not all courses are offered every semester and thus you'll need to consult the course rotation list.
