Conflict of Interest

Geneseo faculty and staff must comply with the State University of New York's Conflict of Interest Policy, which reflects pertinent State and Federal laws and regulations:

Research Foundation of the State University of New York 

Employees of the Research Foundation ("RF"), RF representatives (i.e. Geneseo faculty or staff who act on behalf of the RF), and Principal Investigators ("PIs") whose sponsored funding flows through the RF when fulfilling their PI responsibilities (e.g. managing RF employees or others funded through the grant, expending RF funds managed by the RF) are subject to the RF's Conflict of Interest Policy.

Geneseo faculty or staff who are proposing or have external funding administered through the Research Foundation may be subject to the SUNY/Research Foundation for SUNY Policy on Conflicts of Interest in Public Health Service Sponsored Programs:

Disclosure Procedures

Investigators (see definition below) are required to annually submit a disclosure through the Research Foundation for SUNY Pre-Award and Compliance System (PACS) online. The term "investigator" is defined as:  A SUNY or RF employee who is the project director or principal investigator and any other person, including a student or post-doctoral fellow, regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct or reporting of the funded research, or proposed for such funding, which may include, for example, collaborators or consultants.

To disclose a potential conflict related to the RF's Conflict of Interest policy, please complete the Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement and submit it to the SUNY Geneseo RF Operations Manager, Betsy Colón, colon@geneseo.edu,or the Director of Sponsored Research, Anne Baldwin, baldwina@geneseo.edu.

Training

Conflict of interest training is recommended for all Investigators engaged in sponsored research activities. COI training is required for each Investigator involved in U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) funded research and other funded research when required by the sponsor. The National Institutes of Health are part of PHS. Required COI training must be completed:

  • prior to engaging in the research and at least once every four years thereafter;
  • when an Investigator is noncompliant with the PHS policy or with a management plan developed for the Investigator
