Awards
When an external sponsor makes an award, the Principal Investigator (PI) or Project Director (PD) will generally receive a notice. Notices may also be sent to the President or the Director of Sponsored Research.
Grants and contracts are technically awarded to The Research Foundation for the State University of New York on behalf of SUNY Geneseo, pursuant to a 1977 agreement between SUNY and the Research Foundation.
The award notice is sent to the Betsy Colón, Grants Manager, who will create a Research Foundation award account. The PI/PD may then charge expenditures related to the grant against this account. Details can be found at the Grants Management Office website.
Fellowship awards may be handled in several ways. Some sponsors will limit the awarding of fellowships directly to individuals. If this is the case, the fellow will receive funds in accordance with the sponsor's guidelines.
It may be possible to have some fellowships awarded through the Research Foundation and there are benefits to this arrangement, particularly related to maintenance of fringe benefits. Please contact the Office of Sponsored Research for more information.
