“While not many job boards have open career postings for philosophers, a philosophy major is, in my opinion, perhaps the best second major you could pursue. Combined with the knowledge gained in my Biochemistry degree, the skills prized in my current field are those that I learned and refined during the course of my philosophical studies: being able to produce a well-written thesis, to think critically and analytically, to perform sound logical reasoning. In a more holistic view, philosophy inspires an appreciation for the evolution and dispersion of ideas; how an idea breeds and grows as it is spread through different lenses of culture, age, experience, etc. Perhaps in this regard, it has helped instill in me an appreciation for what different individuals offer through teamwork - no two people will view a concept in the same way.”
