Hot Work
Hot Work
Hot work operations such as cutting, welding, soldering are regulated by OSHA, NFPA and the Fire Code of New York State. The purpose of this procedure is to minimize or eliminate the hazards associated with hot work. Students, employees and contractors (except those working under the sole direction of SUCF and DASNY) are affected by this policy.
A hot work permit must be issued at all times when hot work is performed except in the following areas:
-
Facilities automotive garage
-
Heating plant tool and machine room
-
ISC zone shop
-
Physics instrument and machine shop
-
CITs AV shop
Before hot work begins, it is necessary to call Facilities Services so that fire detection equipment be properly covered. After work has concluded, Facilities must be called again to uncover fire detection equipment.
