Summer Orientation, Class of 2023 (SUNY Geneseo/Keith Walters '11)
The fall semester is almost upon us, and students and faculty are beginning to arrive on the SUNY Geneseo campus in preparation for the start of the 2019–20 academic year with classes beginning Monday, August 26. Move-in Day is Friday, August 23, when most new students arrive on campus and settle into their residence halls. Upper-level students return on Saturday, August 24.
Opening College Convocation for faculty and staff is 3 p.m., Friday, August 23, which will include an opening address from SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles, the announcement of award recipients and recognition of renewed, tenured, and promoted faculty and staff. The convocation is in Wadsworth Auditorium.
The Welcoming Picnic for all faculty, staff, new students and their families will follow the opening convocation at 4:30 p.m. The picnic will take place on the College Union Plaza. The College Union Ballroom is reserved as the rain location.
New Student Convocation will be at 6:30 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium with overflow into Newton Hall. Monica Schneider, professor of psychology, will address new students. Robert “BJ” Scanlon ’07 will be the alumni speaker.
The First Knight Celebration immediately follows New Student Convocation, at 7:30 p.m., on the College Green; the College Union Ballroom serves as the rain location.
New students are encouraged to participate in the college’s Weeks of Welcome activities designed to help increase personal connections with other students, faculty, and staff and promote a sense of belonging.
Geneseo will welcome a talented group of first-year students to the community. Drawing from about 10,400 applicants, the Class of 2023 will be in the range of 1,350 first-year students. The College also will welcome about 250 incoming transfer students and 55 incoming graduate students. Returning undergraduate and graduate students will total about 3,875 for a total estimated enrollment of 5,369.

I am inspired by their intellectual curiosity and optimism and hope for a better tomorrow. I look forward to meeting our new students!”
