NYSED Exams
All candidates must register, take, and pass all the required New York State Teacher Certification Exams. The cost for the exams are incurred by the candidate. For information regarding current exam requirements, test dates, test framework, costs associated with each exam, please visit NYSTCE's website. The Office of Teaching Initiatives offers lists of all requirements, including which exams candidates need to take. Candidates may take their exams at any point; exams are not reliant on program completion nor recommendation status.
Early Childhood and Childhood Education
Educating All Students test (EAS) - should be completed after all education coursework (including student teaching) has been completed. The test content for the EAS includes the following:
- Diverse Student Populations
- English Language Learners
- Students with Disabilities and Other Special Learning Needs
- Teacher Responsibilities
- School-Home Relationships
Content Specialty Tests (CST) - as dual certification candidates, both CSTs listed below must be taken after education coursework (including student teaching) has been completed:
Each version of the Multi-Subject Test contains three parts:
Part One: Literacy and English Language Arts
Part Two: Mathematics
Part Three: Arts and Sciences
Please note: Candidates may register to take all three parts at the same time or may register to take each part separately. However, it is less expensive to register for all three parts at the same time. Also, Part Three of the test is the same for both exams. Candidates only need to take and pass Part Three once. All parts must be passed.
Childhood with Special Education
