What is Class Council?

 

Class Council is a newly formed student leadership organization (established 2018) that replaces the old class officer structure. Class representatives will work together, with a pool of professional staff advisors, to lead and serve their class and all classes.

 

The purpose of the SUNY Geneseo Class Council is to provide leadership and programming that strengthens individual class identities with annual signature events. The Council aims to create meaningful bonds and transitions that will continue to unite each class as they transition from students to Geneseo Alumni.

 

Class Council is an organization defined by the core elements: Creating unity within classes, building traditions, and celebrating long-standing traditions, maintaining legacy, and providing communication between and within classes.

 

What are your responsibilities if you are on Class Council?

  • Attend meetings twice a month
  • Plan and execute annual signature event* for your class year:
    • First Year: MidKnight Breakfast
    • Sophomore: Beat the Sophomore Slump Day Event
    • Junior: Career Planning and Professional Planning
    • Seniors: Senior Week Activities
                  *these events are subject to change based on the work of Class Council
    • Assist with managing class Facebook page (and other social media and/or mailing lists)

Why should you consider being on class council:

  • Networking and Establish Professional Contacts
  • Have a Voice in your signature class events
  • Assist with managing communications to your class
  • Event planning experience
  • Have fun! Meet new people
  • Create a legacy of class pride
