Many student leaders are already on campus including residence hall assistants, athletic team captains, student government officers, Greek organization peer mentors, GOLD Program mentors and college union managers. They are among some 204 students and 26 staff members from across campus who will participate in a day-long leadership training symposium Aug. 23 to kick off the academic year. The keynote speaker for the symposium this year is the author and speaker Joshua Rivedal, who will address “Asking for Help in Difficult Times.”
Opening College Convocation for faculty and staff is Aug. 24 at 3 p.m., which will include an opening address from SUNY Geneseo President Denise A. Battles, the announcement of award recipients and recognition of renewed, tenured and promoted faculty. The convocation is in Wadsworth Auditorium.
The Welcoming Picnic for all faculty, staff, their families and new students will follow the opening convocation at 4:15 p.m. The picnic will take place on the College Union Plaza. The College Union Ballroom is reserved as the rain location.
New Student Convocation also will be Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium with overflow into Newton Hall. Catherine Adams, associate professor of history, will address the new students. The First Knight celebration immediately follows New Student Convocation on the College Green; the College Union Ballroom serves as the rain location.
New students are encouraged to participate in the College’s Weeks of Welcome activities designed to help increase personal connections with other students, faculty and staff and promote a sense of belonging.
