GENESEO, N.Y. – Final exams wrapped up Wednesday and crew members have begun to prepare the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena for Saturday’s two undergraduate commencement ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. An estimated 1,194 students will participate in the ceremonies.
The keynote speaker at both celebrations will be David Gallo, senior adviser for strategic initiatives and program at RMS Titanic Inc. At the morning ceremony, the college will confer an honorary doctor of science upon alumnus Gerald Rhodes ’74, who has made significant research and development contributions in the pharmaceutical industry.
A member of the graduating class traditionally addresses fellow graduates at commencement and Samira Salha, an international relations major from New York City, will address the morning ceremony. Sarah Jane Phillips, a communication major from Waterford, N.Y., will address the afternoon ceremony.
Both undergraduate ceremonies will be streamed, which will be live for rehearsal May 11 from 1:30pm-3:00pm (approx.) and go live again at 8:30 a.m. on May 12 through 5:00 p.m. The recordings will be available on the same page for viewing on demand. Graduates of the School of Education will be recognized at the School of Education Convocation in Wadsworth Auditorium May 11 from 5 p.m. - 6 p.m. Awards will be given to School of Education scholarship recipients at the event.
Geneseo graduate students were recognized during a master’s degree commencement ceremony May 4. Forty-four students received master’s degrees this year in either accounting or education. Addressing the graduate ceremony was Chris Byrd ’09, senior finance analyst, project management, at Broadstone Real Estate in Rochester, N.Y.
