Brahms’ ‘A German Requiem’ Concert April 29 to Feature Symphony, Choral Groups, Soloists

Soloists for the Music Department's Brahms’ “A German Requiem” concert April 29 are baritone Jorell Williams and soprano Keely Futterer.

GENESEO, N.Y. – Three well-known instrumental and choral music companies — the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra, the Geneseo Festival Orchestra and the Geneseo Chamber Singers — are performing Brahms’ “A German Requiem” April 29 at 3 p.m. in SUNY Geneseo’s Wadsworth Auditorium. Also featured will be two soloists: soprano Keely Futterer and baritone Jorell Williams.

Williams is an American operatic baritone with a variety of experience from standard repertoire to premiere pieces. He sings worldwide with well-known opera companies and has numerous performance awards to his credit. Futterer is starting her doctoral work at the Eastman School of Music. She also sings opera and has sung with numerous regional opera companies and symphony orchestras.

The symphony orchestra is under the direction of Principal Conductor Leah McGray, director of instrumental activities at Geneseo. The choral groups are under the direction of Gerard Floriano, director of choral activities and chair of the Department of Music.

Brahams composed the large-scale work from 1865-68 and comprises seven movements. The text for the work was derived by the German Luther Bible.

Tickets for the performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students, available only at the door.
