GENESEO, N.Y. – Five SUNY Geneseo students recently made research presentations at the annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) at the University of Central Oklahoma. NCUR is a component of the Council on Undergraduate Research, which is dedicated to supporting high-quality undergraduate student-faculty collaborative research and scholarship. The selection process to present at the conference is competitive and limited to 3,000 participants from around the nation from all corners of the academic curriculum.
Making presentations from Geneseo were Madeline Flamik from Whitney Point, N.Y., who presented on “The Importance of Social Movement in Transitions of Power in Senegal”; Reba Schnyder from Northpoint, N.Y., who presented “An Analysis of Today’s Rise of Far-Right Nationalism Through the Critical Feminist Lens;” Trevis Lipnicky from Delmar, N.Y., who presented on “The Critical Perceptions of American Transnational Corporations in Dakar, Senegal"; Emily Hayes from Avon, N.Y., who presented on “NGOs Influence Leading to Educational Strides in Senegal: A Possible Solution to Financial Success and Independence?”; and Elana Evenden from Delanson, N.Y., who presented on “The Social Impact of Climate Change in Dakar, Senegal.”
Flamik, Schnyder, Lipnicky and Hayes are international relations majors as well as French majors or minors and their faculty mentor was Kodjo Adabra, associate professor of languages and literatures. Evenden is an English major and French minor and was mentored by Beth McCoy, Distinguished Teaching Professor of English.
“Geneseo is an exemplar for undergraduate research and these students brilliantly represented the College at this conference,” said Adabra, who has been sending Geneseo students to the conference since 2012. “They were able to collaborate with other students and faculty and share their work, giving them a very beneficial research experience.”
