Many students will make poster presentations on their research as part of GREAT Day April 17, similar to this discussion from the 2017 event.
GENESEO, N.Y. – Students are making final preparations on their projects for presentation during GREAT Day April 17 (Geneseo Recognizing Excellence, Achievement & Talent). This is 12th year of the annual event, a college-wide symposium celebrating the creative and scholarly endeavors of Geneseo students.
Close to 1,000 students will showcase their work throughout the day with poster presentations, small group presentations, performances and exhibits. Barbara Kellerman, the James MacGregor Burns lecturer in public leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School, will deliver the annual Jack ’76 and Carol ’76 Kramer Endowed Lecture, titled “How to Make a Leader,” at 1 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium. Kellerman’s address and all GREAT Day events are free and open to the public.
“I couldn’t be more excited about GREAT Day since this is the first year for me to experience it and I sense the momentum,” said SUNY Geneseo Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Stacey Robertson. “These kind of events reflect the essence of Geneseo better than anything we do: scholarship, creative thinking and performing, and faculty collaboration with students. I very much look forward to my first GREAT day.”
Kellerman, whose book “Professionalizing Leadership” was published in February, also is the Founding Executive Director of the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership. She has held professorships at Fordham, Tufts, Fairleigh Dickinson, George Washington, Uppsala and at both Dartmouth and the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. She also served as dean of graduate studies and research at Fairleigh Dickinson and as director of the Center for the Advanced Study of Leadership at the University of Maryland. She has master’s degrees in Russian and East European Studies and philosophy and a doctorate in political science, all from Yale University. She was awarded a Danforth Fellowship and three Fulbright fellowships.
In 2016, Kellerman was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Leadership Association. She received the Wilbur M. McFeeley award in 2010 from the National Management Association for her pioneering work on leadership and followership.
In addition to endowing the GREAT Day Lecture series, Jack and Carol Kramer, both 1976 Geneseo graduates, have provided major support for other Geneseo programs, including The Carol Kramer Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Psychology and The Jack Kramer Endowed Scholarship for Excellence in Physics.
No classes are scheduled at Geneseo April 17 to accommodate GREAT Day events. A program of all scheduled events and presentations is available online.
