Music Department Staging Romantic Comedy 'She Loves Me' April 4-8

The Department of Music presents "She Loves Me"

Mistaken identity reigns in the Music Department's revival of the romantic comedy "She Loves Me" April 4-8 in the Doty Recital Hall.

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo’s spring musical theatre production, “She Loves Me,” is a euphoric romantic comedy with a soaring score, and the Department of Music will be staging the award-winning production April 4 – 8 in the Doty Recital Hall. The first four performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m. General admission is $10. Geneseo student tickets are $5. Tickets are available online or with cash only at the door.

“She Loves Me” is a story of mistaken identify with two combative shop clerks, who are unaware that they each are receiving the other’s love letters. Move buffs will recognize the production as the sweet, musicalized version of “The Shop Around the Corner,” “In the Good Old Summertime” and the 1998 Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan feature “You’ve Got Mail.”

The music, the story and characters are timeless. The most recent Broadway revival featured Broadway treasures Gavin Creel, Laura Benanti, Jan Krakowski and Zachary Levi, among others, to critical acclaim. The 1994 London revival received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival, and the 2016 Broadway revival received eight Tony Nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical, and won a Tony for Best Scenic Design of a Musical. In 2016, it became the first Broadway show ever to be live-streamed.

The production features music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and a book by Joe Masteroff. Guest director Scott Scaffidi teams up again with Music Director Don Kot, coordinator of the Musical Theatre Degree Program at Geneseo.

The student cast consists of Kat Berton, Katelyn Brooks, Erin Burris, Maria Cento, Miranda Calarco, Kim Cole, Mick Elliott, Brett Hammes, Kyle Johnson, Patrick Jones, Sandra Kralik, Annie Levine, Sydney Lyons, Erica Milliman, Jessica Murphy, Rocky Nardone, Aram Peers, Kelsey Roberts, Brian Sousis, Tristan Strasser, Carl Treiber, and Sophie Yeomans, assisted by stage manager Emma Brune.
