GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo alumnus Gerald Rhodes ’74, who has made significant contributions in research and development in the pharmaceutical industry, will receive an honorary doctor of science degree during Geneseo’s morning Commencement May 12.
Rhodes received his bachelor’s degree at Geneseo and his doctorate from Indiana University Bloomington, both in chemistry. He has more than 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical research and was instrumental in the discovery and development of antiviral drugs used in patients to cure hepatitis C infection (HCV) and to treat and chronically manage patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). He also has made important contributions in the discovery and development of drugs intended for use in respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.
Rhodes has authored or coauthored more than 180 peer reviewed scientific journal publications and presentations at major scientific meetings. In his most recent position, Rhodes served as vice president in research at Gilead Sciences.
Geneseo’s Commencement ceremonies begin at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Both are in the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena.
