Position Summary |
HIGHLIGHTS SUNY Geneseo is looking for a new team member to join the Facilities Department as a Plant Utilities Engineer. Incumbent will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, test and calibrate mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution. Employee will make recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment and initiate activity relating to energy conservation projects. Incumbent may supervise Plant Utilities Helpers and Plant Utilities Assistants. |

DIVISION OPERATING NEEDS Applicants will have the ability to climb, stoop, and do medium to heavy labor and lifting (a minimum of 50 pounds) as well as work shifts, weekends and holidays, based on a 40-hour work week, plus mandatory overtime when necessary and respond to urgent and emergency calls on a daily basis. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations for the trade or trades to which assigned and of the safety standards and procedures. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, be able to understand and follow instructions and read, write and communicate verbally. Candidate must possess computer skills adequate to work with computerized applications as assigned. Candidate must provide a record of dependability and past work performance, including satisfactory time and attendance record. Applicant may be required to obtain asbestos handler and/or supervisor certification. Applicant may be required to obtain waste water treatment or filtration certification. |
Required Qualifications |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An Associate degree in Plant Utilities Technology or the equivalent. In order to determine whether a specific degree is equivalent to the Plant Utilities Technology program, the major course of study must include a minimum of 30 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following course areas: - Heating, Ventilation Boiler and Steam Systems AND One year of satisfactory hands-on experience in the operation and maintenance of boilers and/or auxiliary equipment or HVAC equipment in commercial, industrial or institutional facilities. (Experience limited to residential applications is not considered qualifying.) OR B. Four years of such experience and 30 college semester credit hours in any combination of the courses listed in A. above. In addition, candidates must have permanent appointment in a Plant Utilities Engineer I, SG-14 classified position or be reachable for appointment on the current NY State Civil Service canvass list for a Plant Utilities Engineer, SG-14 position. |
