This weekend will mark the last home appearances of SUNY Geneseo’s athletic teams in 2016, highlighted by the Teddy Bear Toss at the men’s hockey game on Friday, Dec. 2.
The sixth-annual event is sponsored by SUNY Geneseo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the men’s hockey team. All in attendance are encouraged to throw a new or gently-used stuffed animal onto the ice following the Knights’ first goal of the contest. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena, with SUNYAC rival Fredonia providing the opposition.
The toys will be collected and donated to the Livingston County Chapters of Catholic Charities, Focus on the Children, and Foster Children of Livingston County. Last season more than 470 plush animals and $350 in donations were collected. Members of the Geneseo Kiwanis and the Junior Ice Knights also assist in the event.
The Knights’ hockey team sports a 6-1-1 mark and is currently ranked fourth in the nation in the latest d3hockey.com poll and fifth in the USCHO.com voting.
The men’s and women’s basketball teams will host conference foes New Paltz and Oneonta on Dec. 2-3. Friday’s game times against the Hawks are 5:30 p.m. for the men and 7:30 p.m. for the women. Saturday’s games against the Red Dragons will take place at 2:00 (men) and 4:00 p.m. (women). Both squads are off to strong starts, with the women’s team sporting a 4-0 record, while the men have compiled a 3-1 record.
For those unable to attend in person, all contests can be viewed via free live video streams. Links can be found via the Knights Web page.
