GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo Jazz Ensemble will showcase "Jazz" and celebrate the history and spirit of an art form that has influenced all of American popular music during a concert Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Doty Hall Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Led by Music Department faculty member Mark Collins ’07, the group will present a variety of music styles that are popularly known as being in the genre. While doing so, the talented student musicians and soloists will be showcased.
The Ensemble will be performing music in the swing, funk, and Latin styles, which will demand a high level of versatility. The Jazz Combo will be presenting solos they have transcribed from artists such as Miles Davis, Bill Watrous, and J.J Johnson in addition to their own solos.
The Geneseo Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo are curricular ensembles comprised of music majors and non-majors who perform formally once per semester. In addition, both groups have performed at events on campus and also in Rochester, where they have been featured with the RIT Jazz Ensembles and University of Rochester Jazz Ensemble in joint concerts.
