SUNY Geneseo's Department of Theatre and Dance is staging “The David Dance,” a production written and directed by 1989 Geneseo alumnus Don Scimé, Feb. 10 – 15 in Brodie Hall’s Robert Sinclair Theatre. The Feb. 10 – 14 shows begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday matinee begins at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 and available online and at the MacVittie College Union Box Office. The Brodie Hall Box Office also will be open for ticket sales Feb. 10 – 14 from 4 – 8 p.m. and Feb. 15 from noon to 2:30 p.m.
The production documents a relationship between David, a shy, gay man and host of the Buffalo radio show “Gay Talk,” and his sister, Kate. Divorced three times, Kate is seeking validation of her life and David gives her support through her numerous relationship issues. Kate reciprocates by becoming his only contact outside of his on-air life as he struggles with self-doubt.
The cast includes Connor McLoughlin ’15 as David, Emily Bantelman ’17 as Kate, Dennis Caughlin ’16 as Chris, Brittani Samuel ’17 as June Handly, Lea Pandoliano ’16 as Margaret, Leah Collazo ’16 as the Nun and Yvette May ’18 as Mrs. Peterson.
Lauren Costello ’15 is the stage manager with support from assistant stage manager Julia Cameron ’18. Adam Brown ’17 is assistant director. Scene design is done by Steven Stubblefield, associate professor and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. Lighting design is under the direction of Johnnie Ferrell, associate professor of theatre and dance and costume design is by Bonnie Stubblefield, a lecturer in the department.
Scimé himself wrote, produced and acted in the feature film by the same name, which received numerous awards. He also performed in the play version of the production as part of the New York International Fringe Festival in Washington, D.C. He has a Certificate in Advanced Acting from the Academy Company and American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has received the Charles Jehlinger Award for Best Actor and American Theatre Wing Scholarship, and Audience Awards for Best Narrative Feature Film at the Tallgrass International Film Festival and Long Island LGBT Film Festival.
