As I've noted previously, I attribute my ongoing success in large part to the rigorous education I received at Geneseo as a physics major. That, and the fact that I like toying around with computers

As of 6/7/02: After graduating from Geneseo I obtained my BSEE from Siberiacuse University in 1985. I was diagnosed with an allergy to clouds and moved to Arizona, ending a 25 year sentence. I miss the four seasons: mud, mosquitoes, potholes and snow. From 1989-1991 I attended Virginia Tech and obtained an MSEE. In 1992 Virginia Tech and Siberiacuse started playing each other in the Big East and I was already back in Arizona (figures). Since then I have been raising my two boys and dealing with the corporate world. I am saving for my kid's Spring Break (forget college they can pay for that themselves). Does Geneseo still have that sweet, two week Spring Break?
Some history on Geneseo. After the first test in our sophomore year, half of the physics majors went on to the next class and half went over to the admin building to change their major.
Back in 83, not many people had seen a laser. They were big enough where you needed two hands and plugged into the wall. We had fun with those and freaked a lot of people heading past Greene from uptown after partying. The legal drinking age was 18 back then and turned to 19. We had to suffer through Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album. Our PC was a PDP 8 that used a teletype and the first computer classes I took in 1980 were entered as batch jobs on key punched cards. Every year we would have a football game at the Physics picnic with Dr. Sells. He was quite a competitor. Dr. Sells also offered a steak dinner if you got a 100 on a Physics test. We would study until midnight in Greene and then either me or Frank Vallone would come up to each other and say, "a quarter was burning a hole in our pocket."
We would head uptown and hold the fooseball table until closing. I wish a quarter bought that much fun today. As for Frank Vallone, he is MIA big time and if he is reading this, I need you to come out of retirement and hold table just one or maybe ten more times. Just watch my corns when you step on my foot to get me to pass the ball. I still think no one ever figured that move out. If any of the other "rabbits" read this, send me a line, especially if you have seen Frank.
One day one of my fraternity brothers remarked that my truck was always parked outside Greene (I was inside doing insurmountable amounts of Dr Kinsey homework). The brother was a business major and is now CFO of Compaq and my truck is parked outside my Tempe office all hours.
Well, enough geezing. I hope the Geneseo Physics program enhances your life as much as it did mine.

Alley's tests taken with magic markers and legal pads.

Trips to the Reber's cabin and the Wagon Wheel.
Demerits for reading newspapers in Fletcher's QM class.
Crushing the competition in the bridge building contest.
Getting a 2nd major in math with the lowest GPA possible.
3:1 female to male at Geneseo, but 0.1:1 in physics.

As of 5/25/05: After receiving my Ph.D. in Physics from Oregon State University in 2003 I accepted a tenure-track faculty position in physics at Ithaca College, NY. I'm totally enjoying my job, living in Ithaca, having 4-seasons again, teaching cool physics classes (check out my "Physics?" in Cartoons and Movies class), supervising 8 research students, and managing the creation of a new studio style physics classroom. Being a physicist rocks!

As of 10/26/2005: .I've leveraged my excellent Physics/engineering education for a rewarding career in the energy industry centered around applied mechanical engineering and R&D in the power generation and DSM/energy efficiency fields. I completed my MBA/Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado in 2004. My wife and I reside in the 'burbs just south of Denver. Although I was raised in the beautiful Catskill Mtns., we love the Colorado lifestyle - skiing, hiking, cycling, etc. I credit folks like Jerry Reber, Dave Meisel and "Duke" Sells with inspiring me toward great success in my education (BA Phys, BSME, etc.) and my career. |

As of 8/21/00: I am not doing anything remotely related to physics. I spent almost 9 years as the I.S. Manager for a trade show mgmt company. When our office was closed in Dec. ?99 by our corporate office, my husband "retired" to pursue more fun interests and I found a part-time job with flexible hours so I could travel with him and also still have a paycheck.

As of 6/23/06: I recently received my PhD in physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder where I worked with Nobel Laureate Carl Wieman on Bose-Einstein condensation. I have just started my first real job as a Research Scientist for Lockheed Martin. I will be designing and building various solid state laser systems. I'm still in Colorado and have developed quite an obsession with hiking/climbing mountains and have summited more than 100 peaks here over 13,000 feet in the last few years.
