Layering Sphere Project (Summer 2008

Laser light is introduced into a spherical cavity ("layering sphere") with an cryogenic ICF target placed at the center. The purpose of the layering sphere is to produce a uniform bath of light to improve the ice layering in the target. We are measuring the light reflected from the walls of the cavity (with no target in place) in hopes of improving this process.
