Speech Buddies Program

The Speech Buddies program was created in 2002 by Professor Irene Belyakov-Goodman, with the goal of providing English-learning students with opportunities to work on their English skills, including conversational skills, vocabulary, and formal writing. Both members of a speech buddy pair volunteer to be in this program.

ESOL students meet with their speech buddies in an informal setting once a week, usually in the Milne Center for Academic Excellence, to talk, enjoy each other's company, and share their experiences. ESOL students are encouraged to ask for help concerning their new college life and with their English.

Speech buddies are assigned by Irene Belyakov, the head of the Speech Buddies Program. Students and Speech Buddies meet on mutually agreed upon days and times.

This program has had a significant impact on many of its students over the years, so for more insight to the program, read the testimonials sent in by previous speech buddies.
